10 Philosophies of SoccerGenius Training

Positive and supportive professional instruction

Children thrive in the training environment that Charles provides. They receive consistent, specific praise and timely feedback.  He combines this with compassionate understanding and guidance - as well as world-class soccer instruction that is second to none - to ensure each student realizes their own SoccerGenius successes.

Development First :  For the short and long-term

Charles realizes that there is no separation between the development of a healthy, skilled soccer player and a healthy, skilled person.  Soccer and life skills go hand-in-hand in his training sessions.  Charles provides a clear development path for all players regardless of experience or ability.  The focus is always on progressive, accelerated learning steps that emphasize skill and 'soccer intelligence' mastery in favour of the counter-productive 'win at all costs' approach.

Fair Play, Everyday

Everyone talks about the importance of fair play for youth sports ... Charles actually teaches the skills of fair play to help players succeed at their desired levels - both on the soccer field and in the rest of their life.

Open Registration

SoccerGenius Training is open to all children 7-17 years of age who love soccer and want to improve their skills and knowledge - and who are willing to put in the time and effort to make it happen for themselves.

Equal Playing and Learning Time

Every player is guaranteed to receive the same professional quality instruction and learning opportunity.  They will also be guaranteed 100% equal playing time - everytime!  This is a hallmark for all of Charles' youth development programs.

Whole Player Training

Soccer body, soccer mind, soccer heart, soccer spirit.  These are the four foundations of the developing athlete in the new millennium.  Charles is at the forefront of the evolution of this training for today's youth.

Multi-positional play and experience

All developing youth players benefit from 'seeing the game' from as many positions on the field as possible. This increases their soccer intelligence and vastly improves their two-way playing skills and teammate abilities.  The tendency to pigeon-hole youth into a single position almost always creates one-dimensional players with a limited understanding and experience of the game. This is why every player Charles teaches is taught the essentials of offense, defense, and goalkeeper awareness.

Personal responsibility and willingness to be challenged

The SoccerGenius Master Rule is that every player takes 100% responsibility for their own soccer development.  No excuses, no blame - simply the choice and ability to respond to the challenges that come with learning this most beautiful game.  Especially when some of the challenges require pushing through the limiting negative beliefs of "I can't" and transforming them into "How can I?" and "I will!"

Training Children as Children

Children are amazing human beings. They often seem tireless in their energy and their ability to play.  They are not, however, mini-adults.  They cannot be trained as if they are adults.  They have very different development needs as well as physical, mental and emotional capabilities.  Charles is meticulous in ensuring that the children in his care are respected for their unique developmental requirements.

Balanced Priorities

Soccer can be an amazing part of a child's life.  It is, however, only one part of their life.  Youth players require time to rest, play with friends, experience other sports and life activities and to align with what brings them joy and excitement.  Charles maintains a maximum three times a week of organized soccer activiites policy for players under 13 and a maximum four times a week policy for players 14-17.  This approach helps players stay fresh and enthusiastic about learning while allowing the rest of their life (and their family's) to stay in balance.
